Onsight Cube

Built for professionals. Designed for everyone.

Onsight Cube, the first industrial thermal fusion wearable, brings hands-free collaboration to the world’s toughest environments. With this device, workers capture, annotate, and share optical and thermal visuals live with remote experts to solve difficult problems. Designed for use in Ex-certified (e.g. oil or gas fields) and industrial environments. The cube’s is intrinsically safe, uniquely rugged and compact. This advanced technology incorporates advanced Augmented Reality (AR) capabilities. Both optical and thermal images are automatically aligned to deliver thermal fusion visuals, while users receive haptic and audible feedback to further augment their experience.

Key Challenges

Multi-use camera. Rugged Environment.

This ultimate imaging tool posed many challenges during development and design due to its advanced features. Cube includes HD optics for clarity, thermal imaging for detecting heat signatures, and thermal fusion with spot temperature for pinpointing areas of concern. It also has a built-in light ring, laser aiming pointer, and onboard storage for easy photo/video media capture and streaming.

Our aim was to create a truly versatile device. The cube can be worn, held, or tripod-mounted, making it suitable for many jobs. Its industrial accessories were designed with safety in mind, featuring a magnetic auto-align latch to ensure user confidence. While these features presented hurdles during development, they contribute to its status as an exceptional tool for professionals.

Our Process

Roadmap.

We began by understanding the user interaction of the cube by evaluating early mock up configurations leveraging rapid prototypes and 3D printing. This was monumental in our approach to quickly move from 2D sketch concepts into 3D space where we were able to gain key insight for creating a both dynamic and safe device.

Throughout our development journey, we continued to refine our designs via various revisions and iterations, ensuring that the final product was truly multi-use, secure, compact, and easy to use. The quick release magnetic clip mechnism allowed us to provide the end user with satisfying feedback and an overall sense of security and durability.
